BB Card

I was hoping to accurately depict my chosen BB card as closely as possible.

I decided rather than scanning the photo on the BB card, I would choose a similar photo off of the internet. Prof. O'Connell helped me choose the best available photo to match with my BB card. Scanning is something I've never done so I thought this was the best alternative.

I found the lines to be challenging, especially in InDesign. Quark made it much easier to create straighter lines. InDesign, the lines needed a constant fixing. It was a long a tedious process.

I solved the problem by remaining patient while going through the line process. It was tough, but I got it done.

I'm most proud that I found our I'm capable of re-creating a professional project. I kept dreading this project because I thought I would fail it, but I think I really created a strong project.

If I had more time, I would have tried to scan the photo to make it even closer to the real BB card.

Narrative

I was hoping to achieve a sound slide narrative that effectively told a story to my viewers. I could approach by using proper choice in pictures to tell my story.

The main decision I made was to do the narrative on WQRI.Being the Program Director, I felt that I could tell the best story to strengthen my project. I also made a song decision that felt more upbeat and provided more instrumentals. I then made the decision to eliminate as many lyrics as possible to provide and instrumental feel to the piece.

I actually did not encounter many problems. With the experience in the past sound slide project, I knew what I was doing. I also have a vast amount of experience with the Audacity program.

I am most proud of the fact that I made the music and the narrative blend beautifully with the pictures displayed. I made so while I was speaking, a picture would come up to match the narrative. It was a great and successful combination between them.

If I had more time, I would have added captions to go along with the pictures.

Sound Slide

I was hoping to successfully loop the audio file to match with the sound slide presentation.

I made the decision to include lyrics in the sound slide rather than use the instrumental part in the beginning. I edited it to cut about a minute into the song so lyrics could be heard.

I thought it was challenging converting the file to an MP3 file. I had trouble finding the section in iTunes that Professor went over in class, but since it wasn't written down for us, people had trouble.

I solved the problem because a student taught me...

I'm proud that I finished this and now I can move on to other projects. I have no idea how to do them, which is going to be a problem. I need guidance.

Newsletter

I was hoping to achieve a newsletter that would attract readers. I made use of the school's sports pictures on the front page to catch the attention of the audience.

I made the decision to include the men's basketball season available on the newsletter. I felt that it was important to include them because the season begins this Saturday. Also, the school's website still has not updated the men's basketball website. I took it into my hand to type out news for the men's basketball team.

I thought it was extremely challenging to change colors on the InDesign program. I needed help from fellow students to slightly change this. I also thought it was impossible to follow the template that was provided for us because I couldn't keep track of where all of the boxes were.

I solved the problem by making my own style rather than following the one that was provided.

If I had more time, I would have asked for a lesson on InDesign because I still barely know how to use it. I'm a student who needs to be taught a lesson in order to successfully complete the project. Even though I think I did fine on my own, I still needed to be taught in order to make my newsletter even better.

PowerPoint Presentation: VR Gaming

I did my presentation on virtual world gaming. Virtual world gaming is a form of socializing across the world through a video game-like atmosphere. Players control different character avatars and interact with each other in different fantasy worlds. Some worlds can seem dead on to the real world, like Second Life, while others, like World of Warcraft, are completely fantasy.

The four most popular virtual reality games are Second Life, Active Worlds, Club Penguin, and World of Warcraft.

Second Life, is a world that is almost identical to the real world. Within this world, users can do anything. When I say anything, I mean anything. There are currently over 15 million users. Certain controversy has developed with this game, however. For instance, there have been cases in which people have actually divorced their real spouse in order to marry their fictional spouse.

Club Penguin, which has over 12 million users, is more directed towards children. Run by Disney, is more simple. Users create a penguin character and walk around in a penguin world with certain activities with each other.

Active Worlds is a very similar to Second Life. However, this is more building housing and land based as opposed to full activities in the real world. There are currently 2 million users.

World of Warcraft is the second most populated virtual world. There are currently 11 million users. WoW is the most video game-like virtual world of them all. It is probably the furthest from the real world due to the fantasy-like characters, lands, and activities. Controversy surrounding WoW are extreme cases of addiction. One case, a teenager played the game for 19 straight hours and died as a result of fatigue and dehydration.

Brochure

Iwas hoping to achieve a professional looking brochure for the University's radio station. I wanted a nice balance of color of font and backgrounds throughout the brochure.

I decided to incorporate the radio station's official logo on the front of the brochure. I also decided to include the station's website colors throughout the brochure. I further decided that I didn't want to include a lot of written details because I thought it would crowd the brochure.

The biggest challenge I faced was getting the exact color from the website to match throughout the brochure. I also found the page set-up to be confusing to translate on the computer.

I solved these problems by asking for help from another student. He guided me to take the correct steps to apply the website's color to the brochure. For the pages, I set up line guides beneath each page.

I most proud of the fact that I believe this is my strongest work in this class yet. I feel as if my hard work paid off and I produced a great brochure.

If I had more time, I would have interviewed people for confessionals about the radio station to add that to my brochure.

Poster

I was hoping to create a poster that caught the eye of somebody during their everyday class routines. I tried to make appealing colors and font to the eye. I also wanted to incorporate the college's radio station (88.3 WQRI) by hosting a huge band.

I changed this poster around a lot. I altered the different colors and fonts until I found one I liked. I tried a black background with a yellow font, but I didn't like the way it looked. I also had to make a decision to include the official radio station logo along with Led Zeppelin's official logo.

The biggest problem I encountered was the size of the project. I originally had it at 8.5 x 11, but found out that it actually had to be 11 x 17. I also had a big problem with changing the background color of each text box.

To solve the height and width problem, I contacted Prof. O'Connell where she guided me in the correct direction to solve the issue on my own. I solved the background color problem by searching the help topics on the Quark tool bar. That guided me to correctly change the color of my background.

I am most proud of the fact that I made a decent poster considering my artistic abilities. I was highly worried that my lack of creativity in the art area would affect my grade, even though I put forth my best effort.

If I had more time, I would have added maybe one or two more pictures to the poster. I am satisfied with my picture, but I could have been more creative if I had the time.
